Rudders at Home

Even though I seem to have lost the Christmas spirit this year (honestly I’ve looked everywhere – even under the couch!), I still love this time of year. I mean, when else can I justify taking a day’s holiday to spend in the kitchen baking my little tush off?

Baking. I’ve got the bug and I’m craving Christmas cookies. And to get over it I decided to take a day and bake up a storm. It all began Monday evening with shortbread. When that wasn’t enough, last night I made peanut butter cups and no bake cookies. Today, I started off with Mom’s buns, then went on to mince pies and finished up with baking chocolate chip cookies. I’ve also made us a lovely dinner of cheese broccoli soup.

Since Paul came back from Texas with a suitcase stuffed to the gills with Nestle’s Tollhouse Morsels , tomorrow I’m going to be baking even MORE cookies! Hey – I’ve got to give him a reason to bring more back in January, don’t I?

Out of the UK for three weeks, I’m back now and have already experienced 3 distinctively British things in the last hour.

1. The woman at my corner shop called me “love”

2. I had a nice cup of tea for the first time in three weeks

3. And the weather. Rainy and cold and typically London.

I do have to say it’s good to be back in my own flat – no matter how much I miss the States.

Lots of excitement here in the Rudders household. So much has happened in the short time between arriving back in the UK from Egypt and now. For instance, you wouldn’t believe where I’m posting from right now. Want to know? Yeah, sure you do! I’m posting from a hotel room in Houston, Texas! I know! I can’t believe it myself!

I still need to post about Egypt. It was a fantastic holiday, and my pictures are online in the Gallery now. However, there’s much more going on.

For instance, today I’m catching a plane north and will be home for Thanksgiving, for the first time five years. And I’m also going to be here in Houston for a while to scope out the scene here. Not to worry, I’ll have some time on my hands after Thanksgiving, so I’ll be able to keep everyone up to date.

I used to see Big Ben every day on the train into London. It’s just a link. Very disappointing, I’m sure. For some INSANE reason, I don’t seem to have a decent picture in my gallery. You would think after almost five years I would have a solid collection of digital images of one of the most popular structures in London. But I don’t. I’m off this weekend to take some. With my new camera. At least, that’s the plan.

Anyway, enough about that.
