Care packages

Since my first year in the UK, I’ve stopped asking for care packages. I’ve given up on recreating my American home here exactly and have done my best to accept the fact that there are certain things I just won’t get here. For the most part, I can find suitable substitutes, and when a friend hears I’m at a loss of what might work, they are usually pretty good with suggestions.
But, as much as I think I may have adapted, sometimes you can’t beat a good old fashioned care package. I received one of those at the weekend. I don’t get them too often, but when I do, I’m very grateful. Everyone loves to receive mail, but there’s just something about receiving an actual package. Especially one filled with stuff from home! Just look at everything I got!

I think this was one of the best care packages ever, because not everything is shop bought. Clearly the chocolate chips and the cookie flipper you can barely see in the bottom left hand corner are from the store, but the rest is not. My mother sent along some moose meat sticks (a story I will have to elaborate on later), a sandwich holder which she made for me, as well as a striped plastic bag holder which was made for me as well. I can’t wait to try everything out!

Aww, how nice! Care packages are the best. I just wish they weren’t so expensive to send!

You’re right. Care packages ARE the best. Simple little things that make you feel like you’re at home!

We have the bestest parents ever, do we not? Our Mom is so cool! She and Dad stopped by the night they made the trip to DuBois for the cookie flipper. I was surprised when she told me that you can’t find the plastic flpers for non-stick skillets – you would think that they would be readily available due to the number of chefs/cooks that seem to have British accents on the Food Network on our cable tv over here!
Something we tried with the moose meat sticks – your nephew Casey suggested we grill them one night. Some he wanted bbq sauce on – others we left plain. They actually weren’t too bad – turned out a bit spicier, but the kids ate them up. And believe it our not – they ASK for moose for dinner – they prefer it over any beef, burgers or chicken done on the grill or otherwise. (When I told Dad this, I think he got a little warm and fuzzy in the heart – I know it brightened the twinkle in his eyes
Wonder how caribou tastes?
