Brick Lane

So, this weekend we made a visit to Brick Lane. Brick Lane is found in the East End of London and is really famous for it’s wealth of Indian restaurants. I’ve been wanting to go to Brick Lane for some time now, mainly to check it out and see what it’s all about. I had no idea what to expect, and I wasn’t disappointed.
On a Saturday night, it was a rather busy street and absolutely lined with curry houses. If it wasn’t a proper restaurant, then it was a take away joint specializing in all sorts of Indian food. The walk down the street itself reminded me of some of my holidays in Europe. Waiters would stand in doorways, enticing people in to their restaurant with promises of free beer and/or poppadums. And most restuarants had their claims to fame in the windows, showing all the reviews and recommendations that they had received from city newspapers and magazines.
Alas, we didn’t get free beer OR poppadums, but we did get a good meal. We settled on The Shampan in the end – mainly because a colleague remembered it being pretty decent. In the Brick Lane world of hit and miss curry experiences, we were happy to have a recommendation and were even happier that we were quickly seated in the busy place.
The meal we had was just fantastic. I definitely think we’ll be making another pilgrimage to Brick Lane.
